Play Report: Blades In The Dark: Locke Lamora Style

Similar; I post these for a couple reasons:

  1. I totally remember reading some APs from way back in the day that I loved. I’ve wanted to recreate those.
  2. Show cool-ass system crap in Blades, fast becoming my favorite system.
  3. Yeah, show off our Gentleman Bastard skills. Heck yeah!

These are great - as both AP and ‘fan fiction’ (I enjoy the books). One Blades related question … If I’ve read it right the twins are both Cutters. Typically, I’d encourage any playbook to be in use with only one player around the table, so they each have a unique skillset to spotlight. How did it go with two of the same in play?

Right, both Cutters.

It’s been fine. Unlike AW, Blades specifically says its fine to have more of the same playbook. It’s been fun for us to find ways to differentiate them in system and in fiction: Hammer has 3 Melee and has intentionally developed broad skills and started with the move that lets him heal faster, while Sickle started with 3 Command and the move that gives her more command dice when the target is scared.

So: One is tough and steps in to take damage, while also being good at resistance. The other is great at giving orders.

So, in fiction: Sickle was trained to be a general, Hammer to be her guard. Mom viewed him as expendable.
