I’ve continued my greatest hits of “Age of Ravens” series with another first installment from my History of RPG Genre posts, along with links to the reset of the series. Today I return to the first list I ever did for these, my look at where horror rpgs started. This one walks all the way up to White Wolf’s doorstep.
Age of Ravens: History of Horror RPGs (1981-1990)

This is my favorite of the History of RPGs series.
Wanted to play/run Beyond the Supernatural, but after AD&D 2e my group wanted to crank up the Shadowrun because they went gear mad with all the splatbooks.
Did play Darkspace, it got violent and weird quick turning the proposed campaign into a one shot, but it was more interesting than vanilla Spacemaster.
Dark Space is strange-- it feels such like a house campaign that got written up because people wanted lots of weird new tables and mechanics.
