On The Gauntlet Blog I wrap up my series on hacking Mutant: Year Zero to a Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri-like game. This post focuses on tech trees and colony building for the players. For this I adapt one of the MYZ’s best systems: the Ark-development mechanics. These let the players decide the direction of the colony, invest themselves in projects, and steer progress along four distinct tracks. It’s an adaptable and not too heavy system for GMs who wanting a “building game.”
