Droids! A hack of The Skeletons by Jason Morningstar

Hey! Throwing this out there for not only some public feedback, but also testing links within posts. Surely most of the stuff here will be links to Google Docs.

The concept of this game is: What happens to the droids at the palace after Jabba’s death?

It is inspired by a discussion held during one of @RichRogers Star Wars Saturday games. It borrows heavily from The Skeletons and at this point, needs some trimming of extra droids and some more ideas around the existing playbooks.

Please! Comment on the text and let me know what you like and, more importantly, what you DON’T like!

Edit:
I have removed the link while I continue to work on this project. I will reshare it if and when it is complete, and I have explicit blessing for it’s public dissemination. Thank you everyone for your feedback!

Whoa-ho! This is pretty dope! I do think it could benefit from a slightly lighter Star Wars tone in some places (i.e. the matriarch) but it’s a good twist. For some reason I want to play this even more than The Skeletons??

I know @tomes has talked about doing something similar to this (without the heavy star wars theme).

As far as a game about robots with feelings? I’m 100% about that.

The star wars theme is certainly heavy here because the idea stemmed from Star Wars Saturday games. I might re-write it at some point to be less offensive to a certain mouse and his lawyers and reach out to Jason Morningstar about publishing it. It’s tricky because there is no explicit license to The Skeletons, so I’d have to gain permission. Honestly not sure if I should even be posting this. :grimacing:

Always be posting gaming ideas! Even if it doesn’t go anywhere I love seeing what’s in people’s minds!

Haven’t had a chance to look, but thanks @Asher for the tag-in.

I did The Skeletons: In Space, which you can read about here http://www.supernovembergames.com/tomes-of-tomes/2016/7/12/the-skeletons-in-space-a-very-short-playtest) and here (http://www.supernovembergames.com/tomes-of-tomes/2016/9/6/strategicon-gateway-2016-saturday-and-god-and-praxis), but haven’t revisited in a while.

You have comments everywhere I had questions, and they addressed the things I had questions on.

Thanks @River_Williamson! I honestly haven’t had much time to get back to this text since I posted it. I’ll be making some changes soon and I’ll update here when I do.

@tomes I really love the Legos for playing this in person. Wish I could somehow do that online. I’m curious if you adapted any of the text for space or re-interpreted one of the playsets durring play. If the former, do you have any text I can view?

With the death of the Opportunity Mars rover, I kinda want to do a Skeletons hack with autonomous survey vehicles

Honestly, @GroupSoliloquy, I didn’t adapt anything. Sometimes you can reinterpret words (“you have a bow” to “you have a laser pistol”) or whatever it says in the text, but that’s about all we did to make this work.

I love that idea @River_Williamson, it would be interesting to see a game that discusses our relationship to the work performed by robots as they approach sentience. The thing that “kills” the survey robots could be the arrival of the humans who sent them.

That would be heckin’ bittersweet. Brought into the loving embrace of your creators and shut down

I was in the Skeletons in Space game and it was so cool. (As for how to adapt it, we just skinned it: I was Tattered Cloak, and my Cloak was an alien tentacle-symbiote)

EDIT: Ah, not THAT game of Space Skeletons, I see looking at the link, but a game we played on The Gauntlet!

Oh yah! I haven’t been keeping up with the blog by any stretch, but here’s that recording for the Gauntlet game of Skeletons in Space (no Legos):
