Farrier's Bellows Substitute

While I can’t say I was ever a regular listener of The Farrier’s Bellows, they were definitely one of my favorite resources over the past year for when I’d hear of an indie system I wasn’t familiar with and wanted more info.

Just recently, I saw that they went off the air earlier this year as real life commitments moved to the fore. I’m curious, can anyone recommend a podcast that does system overviews and reviews even half as well as they did?

I have been enjoying Yes Indie’d Podcast recently.

You might also like Backstory but I believe that podcast has also ceased making new episodes.

Thanks! Just listened to the preview episode of Yes Indie’d–I like the premise of the show. I see it just launched this year; appreciate you turning me onto it!

As part of the Happy Jacks RPG network my friend Jim Sandoval and I started a “podcast” called Small Game Hunters. We never got it to consistency enough to get it up on the podcast stream, but we did record all of them as Twitch streamed videos that you can find on the Happy Jacks RPG YouTube channel’s Small Game Hunter playlist. So yah, you’d have to watch it on YT (or download it in some manner).

We had the following episodes, which similarly covered the games in some depth with some analysis:

  1. Dread by @Epidiah
  2. Companion’s Tale
  3. For The Queen
  4. The Skeletons by @Jmstar
  5. Games on Demand and various games
  6. Girl Underground by @Lauren
  7. Fall of Magic

Enjoy! (or not!)

The Gauntlet Podcast has been covering these games for years. It doesn’t do deep dives like Farriers’ did, but it’s a great resource for learning about new games.

Backstory was very good.

I don’t know if there’s a definitive site, but you can find a number of them with some Googling.

Thanks all, these are helpful. It’s certainly true there are plenty of great podcasts out there that do actual play or RPG news well; one of the things I loved about Farrier’s Bellows is that rather than chat about the hottest new game, they tended to dig in on systems that I’d likely heard of, at least in passing, because it had been out in the wild for a while and had stood the test of time. Lots of these suggestions get me started though, and even if they’re not completely that format, it looks like some do mix in episodes of that type.
