Gauntlet Con Gauntlet Podcast: Questions Needed

Gauntlet Podcast Gauntlet Con Live Show
@Auzumel_S and I will be doing a special episode of The Gauntlet Podcast the Friday of Gauntlet Con at 10PM Eastern. We’ll be covering a couple of games and then answering questions. If you have topics, queries, or puzzlements please post or send them on. We’d be glad to talk about games we’ve played, running online, gaming history, recommendations, or whatever else would be cool.

Lowell and Sherri, I have some questions!

  1. You created Action Cards, a tweak to Fate IIRC, and are running it with your home group. How do you feel about it now vs. when you first made it? If you were to restart Action Cards all over again, what would it look like now?

  2. Both of you have played face-to-face and online TTRPGs extensively. Could you compare and contrast the two, talk about what you like about each and what advantages each has over the other?

  3. What’s your favorite part of the Gauntlet community? How has it enriched your enjoyment of the hobby?

  4. What’s a dream game / series / campaign you’d love to run or play online?

  5. What aspects of online play do you yearn to see in a TTRPG design?

Lowell, you’re a prolific hacker of games. Are there things you look for in a game to excite your hacking sensibilities? Are there hacks you have in mind that you haven’t found a base system to use for yet?

  1. When you are considering what to run do you think about rules/system or setting first?
  2. Does that decision vary if your are planning for online or face-to-face sessions.
  3. Does it vary if you are considering 1, 4 or 12 sessions, or a longer ‘campaign’.
    Sherri - from a player perspective …
  4. What attracts you more: setting or system?
  5. What about online vs. F-2-F decisions?
  6. Is any of that varied with the length of the series?
    Thanks.

Are there any genres that click for you as a game that you don’t otherwise enjoy much?

Like, I don’t much care about most mecha fiction (comics, anime, movies, etc Pacific Rim excepted), but have had totally fantastic games of Hilt//Blade and Firebrands. What are your genres that are enhanced by playing them?

Follow-up to @JimLikesGames … so what is it about a mechanic or the way a mechanic moves a game towards ‘play experience’ so that it over-rides a sense of setting ‘Meh - take it or leave it’ and delivers a ‘Hell - Yes’ session?
