Hi folks. I’m Eric; I’ve been associated as an occasional visitor to the Houston (in-person) Gauntlet group for some time, and was around occasionally for the G+ community, but am just rediscovering the Gauntlet as an online community due to a recent move to the greater Austin area (and Covid).

I’m in the process of working my way through many of the session videos, and hoping to start signing up for games soon. ('Though the calendar currently looks to be booked up through April, so I might have to waitlist.)

I run games as well, but for now I just hope to participate and build ties with the community. I’m excited to find a place where some alternative systems are being run: I’m a big fan of PBTA hacks, Gumshoe, and some of the rarer trad games like Ars Magica, Shadows of Esteren, Torg, or Changeling (and am enjoying seeing some of those ported to other, lighter systems).

Anyway, I’m around and looking forward to meeting y’all.

Hello, and welcome !
I believe some game sessions may have slots reserved for newcomers.

Welcome @Pyske … games are posted up to 2 months out but I’d suggest getting on a waitlist for some games you like the look of. One of my series last month had a complete turn-over of players between posting and playing.
Are you on the Slack? If so, consider posting on the ‘game request’ channel to let GMs know what you’d like to play - specific is good … or reply here and I’ll post your interests for you.
There were also some seats for Gauntlet Community Open Gaming from 25-28 Feb.

I have slack but do not yet have an invite to the Gauntlet Slack community. I’d love to receive one, if you can remind me who I should contact to get an invite. Thanks!

There are two ways to get an invite: You either have played with the Gauntlet once - at a regular calendar game, GCOG (Gauntlet Community Open Gaming) or GaunletCON - or as a supporter on Patreon at a certain level. The calendar games are notoriously difficult to get into but you have a decent chance to get a spot through the waitlist. GCOG is probably your best bet as there are a still a number of open spots available: https://gauntlet-con.firebaseapp.com/events

Hi everyone! I’m Matt, a long-time lurker. I’m writing this because I want to improve my spoken English and for that, I would like to play (and later run) games here.

A bit about myself: I organized the first OSR con in Hungary (called “Véletlen találkozások,” aka Random Encounters, 2010-2013). I was a regular in Gabor ‘Melan’ Lux Fomalhaut campaigns and an occasional player in Jeff Rients’s first Google Hangouts campaign.

I also took part in the dissemination of online roleplaying in my country. I organized the LFX community (2014-2016), a rough diamond version of Gauntlet. We publicly played many one-shots (OSR, PbtA, Story Games, and other indie stuff), introduced safety techniques to the wider audience, and I also translated a few free RPGs into Hungarian (Lady Blackbird, Ghost Lines, Cthulhu Dark, etc.)

From 2016 my interest turned to Nordic larps and the educational aspects of roleplaying. I wrote the first (and unfortunately only) academic paper on analog RPGs and their educational application in Hungary. I also use game-based and playful methods in middle and high education. Still, my current focus is on researching experiential learning methods (like simulations and roleplaying) in an organizational context as a PhD student. As a side-project, I started an online (Hungarian) workshop called EPICLEVER last year. This tries to translate my research results (best practices, know-how) back into my favorite hobby.

I would love to engage with the Gauntlet community and get to know the active participants. I’m just not sure how to start this journey. It seems like most of you are into longer, 3-5 mini-campaigns here, and I’d initially prefer one-shots. I want to play, maybe a few times a month? Later I can also run one-shots if there is any interest in it. Is there any chance of participating in shorter games from a CET (GMT+1) timezone?

@Deodatus What an interesting journey from OSR to Nordic Larp! There are some people in the Gauntlet that are interested in Larps and RPGs in an educational context - @Gerrit being one of them. As for joining games and getting to know more Gauntleteers: I don’t really have a better answer than what I had said above.

Hi @Deodatus! Great to have you! Feel free to get in touch with me in DMs. I would love to hear more about your activities as a fellow Nordic Larper, LAOG designer (Live-Action Online Games) and a long-term member of the Gauntlet Community. The Gauntlet was so important for my journey into Indie RPGs, then supported me becoming a designer and finally gave me all the euphoric atmosphere I needed to start the LAOG framework.

My name is Parker. I’m 38 years old, suburban dad, former lawyer, software developer for a lumber company.

I’ve been role playing for 25 years (dear god), and I’ve suddenly got an idea for an RPG. The first time I’m not just wanting to hack something else. I like a lot of games that have come out of the Gauntlet, so I thought I’d join up and say hi. I’m increasingly convinced half of writing a good RPG in 2021 is building a community, so hello!

I also garden and bake and play video games on easy mode.

Welcome, @CitizenKeen! Have a wander about and enjoy the scenery, though we have a channel dedicated to design chat. I look forward to hearing your design ideas.

Hi !
My name is Tolkraft, i’m 40, French, and an RPG enthusiast for 8 years now.

I create and publish beautiful free MedFan adventures under the label DendrobatProd.

I love MedFan and Cthulhu (mostly Delta Green), and I like to discover a lot of different games.

Among my feats of arms, I won the French Threeforged challenge twice in three years of attending, and several scenario contests.

I’m doing my best to produce high-quality content (I learnt how to write, layout and illustrate by myself and always try to improve), so I hope you’ll like what I do.

See ya!

Ahoy @DendrobatProd and welcome aboard!. I’m a huge fan of Delta Green myself and planning to run lots of scenarios in the next coming months for the Gauntlet. I hope to see you in a game soon!

Hey ya’ll!

My name is Gilbert, I’m 33 from San Jose, CA. I’m also a suburban dad who’s only recently gotten into RPG’s. I’m a systems engineer (and write way too much code for/around RPG’s).

Originally introduced to OSR’s by a good friend at a tech conference. My small local group of friends got started with 5E. Came across Fear of a Black Dragon and the list of modules and games to play has been growing.

Recently started playing Trophy Dark and I LOVE it. Playing Trophy Gold this weekend and I’m pretty stoked!
