What do you most want to play this Autumn and why?

We are having these discussions now in my local group. Proposed and likely to get played:

Lead & Gold
Reunion
Everyone’s A Suspect
Catch the Devil
Companion’s Tale

…and since I scored a copy of Tales of the Crystals on Saturday we’ll probably play that, too.

Oop, one more-- Songs for the Dusk. Optimistic science-fantasy post-apocalypse FitD game, it’s got me excited to give FitD another go.

My running list of games I want to play is dozens of games long.

But at the top of the list are Dialect, Sig: The City Between, Sign, Unknown Armies, Vermin Gods, The King Machine and Lovecraftesque.

Hopefully my fellow players will be interested in some of those.

I posted a bunch of games I was interested in playing over the summer (and did manage to play a few of them) so I’ll try not to be too redundant here.

For the fall, I’m going to have to try to fit a bunch of games in early before things get really busy for me. Some highlights might be:

  • Ultraviolet Grasslands - love the aesthetics, looking forward to playing the game.
  • Ironsworn - still hoping to play more than a one shot of this (preferably without a GM).
  • Torchbearer (or Mouse Guard) - still really want to actually play these games!

That said, I’ve had a ton of fun playing Troika! this summer so maybe I’ll just try to continue with that.

I want to play Band of Blades this fall and so I put it up on The Gauntlet Calender

Other things that are high on my list are Torchbearer, Burning Wheel, Kingdom, Cartel, Misspent Youth, Legacy: Life among the ruins and Golden sky stories. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some of these to the table and/or get into some games on the gauntlet running these during fall.

Man, Autumn is such a magical time. It always gets me in the mood to start a Vampire: the Masquerade chronicle. I’ll probably funnel that enthusiasm into playtests of the PbtA vampire game I am writing, Ravenous.

But in terms of wishlist?

If I could get a solid table together for an ongoing Mutant Year Zero: Elysium, or Trail of Cthulhu: Eternal Lies I would be pretty stoked. I don’t think it’s going to happen this year though. I promised my friends I would create a home group to run Kult: Divinity Lost a couple of months ago, and the fact that I haven’t delivered on that is tarnishing my resolution to renounce being a flakey gamer.

So many things, and I have so little time to do it in. I want to try out the new BWHQ game Miseries and Misfortunes, I want to play Band of Blades. I’d like to get Silent Titans to the table. I’m toying around with hacking Freebooters on the Frontier for city based play, maybe in Marlinko or in a Sigil like Planescape setting. I’ve also been saying I want to get a long term campaign going since last winter, but this fall I’m going to make a real effort to see that happen.

I am excited to play one-shots of Swords Without Master, A Scoundrel in the Deep, and Trophy as many times and with as many different friends as possible.

When the semester starts and my regular group is ready, I’m looking forward to wrapping up our first season of Blades in the Dark, then maybe trying a new game. In my dreams, we have a kickass finale to Blades, try a session or two of Dream Askew, then get through a nice chunk of Polaris, Remember Tomorrow, or Monster of the Week, depending on what they’re interested in.

Oh, and also, I’m looking forward to playing great games with lovely people at Gauntlet Con!

As a player
During the summer we played my Gnostic horror OSR game Kuf. A friend is writing a campaign setting called The Landlocked North, set in rural Sweden. He’s running/play testing that. And I quite enjoy sitting on the player side of the screen in his slow burning Twin Peakesque horror mystery. Continuing exploring those mysteries would be my first choice for Autumn gaming, and it seems I’ll be able to do just that. Good times.

As a GM
My GM heart is fickle. A week ago it was set on running a cyberpunk game using rules and setting elements from Kuf. But as of two or three days I’m planning a … strange … mega dungeon experience set around a flying castle. I’ve even made covers for both ideas, in case they ever see so much play that I decide to write them down as modules for whatever games they might go well with. I’m sure I’ll be changing my mind on a weekly to bi-weekly basis until I actually have some players gathered around my table and we’re rolling up characters.

Turns out most of my regular players are interested in Sig for various reasons, including a love for old school Planescape, a desire to explore a vast and strange multiverse, and a hope to see beliefs get challenged. I think the game does a great job of taking what was cool about Planescape and putting it into a package that is more to my gaming tastes than 2nd ed D&D was. Hopefully, this campaign will go well.

In no particular order:

  • The Yellow King, whenever it actually releases
  • Scum and Villainy and/or Lady Blackbird and/or Lasers and Feelings, to GM for a group of sci-fi friends who’ve never played an RPG before
  • Durance, because it’s been a minute
  • Winterhorn, because it’s time and I’m getting that cynical
  • …and something Archipelago, because I’ve never

I’m running L&F for the first time this weekend - can’t wait! S&V is also tons of fun, especially for a campaign, but in my opinion L&F is probably better for folks who’ve not played RPGs and may or may not like it.

I want to host oneshots of Fiasco and Trophy. Because that’s my best two (re)reads of the summer. And also launch a campaign of Urban Shadows.
And then, try out in flesh some of my own games (the Descended from the Queen especially).

PS : I forgot some whys …
For Urban Shadows, that’s because the last mini-campaign was a blast, but got rushed in the end. I want to explore this game much, and the fiction it proposes is what I love. But I may be going Rural more than Urban …
For my own games, it’s because I need to test them out !

+1 for Stonetop! It’s looks like DW meets Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures which are two of my favorites!
Also, a custom adventure for Mothership because I want to write one and playtest it out
Also, Comrades: A Revolutionary rpg - this is my latest, greatest rpg read
And, a game of Dread for Halloween

I grabbed myself a copy of Spire and hope to run it as at least a one-shot this year.

I also plan to run Death Frost Doom using WoDu as a Halloween game this year.

Other than that, I’m mostly looking forward to my 5e game starting up again, and hopefully I’ll get to continue the Apocalypse World game I ran as a one-shot in the spring.
