What piece of media do you wish was an RPG?

The Expanse. I know, there’s an RPG for it now, and boardgames and on and on, but none of it captures the clashing of huge factions that I find so interesting. All the games focus on space hijinx, and there are a million systems for those.

Grey Gardens or Sunset Boulevard. I want to play a game where you play an old recluse in a dilapidated mansion, trying to relive your glory days. There should be a touch of madness and menace to the whole thing. That is one of my favorite themes in pop culture (as @rabalias, @BeckyA and many others can attest).

Uncharted Worlds has a faction mechanic on it that’s pretty neat. The players have favors they can leverage with a faction while also having debt that the faction can leverage to get them to do stuff. I think it could be used for The Expanse with some tinkering

On the way.

I’d like to see a Dragonriders of Pern RPG, a Dark Tower RPG, and a LEGO RPG.

Ohhh, yeah, there’s a lot of really interesting stuff going on with Travellers. It’s sort of orthogonal to my stated interest in time-loop narratives, so sign me up!

I have to say, you missed a perfect opportunity to say “as you wish…”.

I was going to post the same answer, while I wish Green Ronin the best of success with their version it just didn’t grab me in the way that I wanted from a game in that setting.

Borribles. Thinking about doing one for decades now.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - Most things, if I want there to be an RPG of the media and there isn’t already a satisfying solution, I’ll just design my own game that fits what I want. So for me this is a question of “what do you wish was a game but you don’t have the game design skill to make it one?” And for a long, long time my game design white whale has been making a game based on this novel. But I can’t quite figure out how to make a game that creates heartbreaking drama about the lives of 20th century comic book writers.

Well, I’m new to the forum and thought it was a bit early to say I love you.

I’ve never wanted to play a Discworld RPG, beyond the MUD game from way back. But having just read through Kingdom, I think that could work. Your kingdom is the Beggars Guild, a watch house, the Unseen University, an Omnian mission, a fledgling industrial concern (what follows trains, telegraphs and the postal service?) rather than Ankh Morpork itself. Sam Vimes is a Touchstone character that was forced into Power, for example, so I think it could work if you manage to embrace that beautiful mix of cynicism, idealism and silliness.

Neverwhere would be a lot of fun. My lazy approach would be to make it a setting for Blades in the Dark, but I was very intrigued when I saw a Gauntlet game that creates the wider setting using Archipelago: https://gauntlet-hangouts.firebaseapp.com/event-detail/-LZoTSb1c3Y459fCQc_B (wish I could play on the weekends!).

You can find it on the tubes.
I thought Neverwhere was a fever dream, I watched it at 9 years old and always remembered the scene in the Museum. At 15 I read the book and that vague memory clicked into place. Have you heard the audiobook version? It is very, very good.

I can think of a couple games that could get close to the right feel, but a licensed Outlaw Star RPG would be incredibly my jam.

Sabriel. I loved that book so much. That whole series is super fun. That being said I’m sure I could just run it fine in burning wheel
