What piece of media do you wish was an RPG?

Yes! Agree on Well World.

Princess Bride had a successful kickstarter.

I had a necromancer antagonist in my DW game who used bells to control his army of zombies. And then the thief stole his bells after chopping off his hand; and gave them to the bard. But she never did much with them. Maybe I should have had the bells try to take over her mind…

Skyrim, particularly the feel. Working on it with Alone to the Wilds, which is also kind of inspired by stories such as The Scarlet Letter.

Game of Thrones as well - the world building, mythology and politics less than the problematic aspects. Also working on it with The Song Eternal. I know there’s SCUP, which I love but kinda feel is just AW skinned dark fantasy. I need to take a closer look at Legacy because I’ve heard it is also very GoT.

I’ve often wanted a Mass Effect experience. Went for it with Mass Effect SR-X with @transalaskan . This also often mixes with my appreciation for Star Trek and Dark Matter. Kind of working on it with Colony Farout, although it is on the back burner right now.

The other thing I’ve wanted is some kinda badass aesthetic mix of The Legend of Dragoon and heavy metal. Hard to describe. Working on it with Hell or High Water, but again this is on the back burner.

There was a whole year of Game Chef where Shakespeare was the key ingredient. My game Durance came out of that year! 100% on board the Ibsen RPG train, let’s do it.

Hey, I remember that Game Chef! I made a really clunky Fiasco derivative.

Julian May’s Saga of the Exiles seems almost perfect for an RPG set up.

Clive Barker’s Imajica would be interesting.

I often wonder about something based on Alistair Reynold’s Revelation Space series.

But my vote here goes to Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

I hope I’m not replying too late! While much smaller scale and not about time travel, the Larp Deranged explicitly involves playing and replaying scenes in a timeline several times. It’s about the lives of Clara Wiecks, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, and Johannes Brahms as remembered by Robert on his deathbed. I’m getting all of this second-hand from friends who’ve played it, though. The scenario is available here:

The graphic novel The Massive, by Brian Wood, is set in the years following a global economic and environmental crash. The characters and their relationships are fascinating, and I find the dynamic of dealing with the immediate aftermath of the crash engaging. Playing a crew almost always at sea, facing monstrous weather events, and unsure of its role in this version of the world would lead to interesting mechanics.

The aesthetics are somewhat different, but Shinobigami draws on so many of the tropes and precursor media that Naruto/Boruto does that I can’t imagine it would be hard to adapt. You can find out more about the game here:

Oh man, I super want to run this now.

Deranged is the finest game I’ve played in years, and I play a lot of games!

Deranged is super good.

I am pretty sure we could do a long con of just Deranged. Over and over again. Make it a wide long con, and switch groups every few hours.

I’d come to that, for sure. That actually sounds amazing.

… I’m gonna do what I do now, and put out feelers to the mid-atlantic crew to see if there’s sufficient interest.

If I get back a couple of Yes’s, I’ll spin this off into a new thread and ping you in for all sorts of planning.

So this is something a little strange but honestly…

Santa Clarita Diet would make a great Monster of the Week skin.

I absolutely love Worm! There’s an official system stuck in development called Weaverdice, but I don’t like how trad it is. It also determines that players can’t pick their powers and trigger event, which is something I could go along with… IF the trigger events listed weren’t mostly community-contributed and bad.

I agree, Worlds in Peril could do it, but it’d need some tinkering to make it quite right, especially since it isn’t particularly dark, and capes in Worm never develop new powers until a second trigger.

That’s a good point about 2nd triggers… Glad somebody else here has read Worm!
