What would make an indie dice-roller / tabletop simulator a "killer app" for you?

The n faces edit is confusing. The layout of the labels males it unclear as to what is wanted where.

0
How many faces?
0
[Button]

Its unclear whether you want faces at the top or bottom. It is unclear as to what the other line means. In the input consider using placeholder for faces and No of Dice.

The other special is limited by only allowing a single digit. You cannot create d00 (which you need for games like CoC or Delta Green which use the tens for advantage) or d000. Some special dice have blank faces, which its unclear how to enter since tge list is space separated. Its fantastic that emoji can be entered. It would be nice to choose the shape of the special dice or for it to presume a shape based upon the size of the list.

My ideal software would be for a dice roller that can be used as a camera filter (like Instafilters or Snapfilters) to be used in video chat. Then everyone could see what I rolled or which condition tokens and counters I have next to my face.

Being a camera filter would make it video chat independent.

High-five, fellow Linux user! 2020 is the year of Linux on the desktop, to be sure!

The geometry calculations get a little hairy once zoom levels come into play. I think I’ve made some changes tonight that should be more satisfying.

Also, I’m now using the default HTML5 colorpicker (dunno why I didn’t start out with this built-in widget). Hopefully it works well for you!

Ok, I think I’ve made a change that makes the number-of-dice inputs a lot more intuitive, have a look!

Also - great feedback on the “special” dice. I’m not sure how a d00 differs from a d100 though?

When sorted the 00 result is the lowest, but 100 the highest.

I’ve had Linux on the desktop for 22 years.

I tried going back to Windows, but it was too painful. It was possible to replicate my publishing toolchain on Windows, but it was such a bother I never want to do it again.

This is very helpful! It looks good. A good change! Much more practical. I like it!

Only one problem:

Now, for some reason (and depending on the level of zoom/table size), when you create new items, they can appear so high up that they are outside of the visible screen. You can’t see them at all, or just the very bottom of the die or added element is visible on the screen.

Aside from that, if click-and-drag capability were added, for my purposes this would be ready to go. (Although I haven’t tried using it with multiple users; perhaps there are problems or issues when you do that - I don’t know.)

I tried using the dice roller for an online game for the first time yesterday, and we didn’t have much success. First of all, objects still appear “offscreen” (too high up), which is sometimes a problem. Second, when the other two players joined, the dice seemed to flicker, appearing and disappearing. It felt sufficiently uncomfortable that we switched back to a more familiar platform.

I’m not sure what that was all about, but it seems important to report it!

Thanks again for this critical feedback. I’ve got a dice-appear-offscreen bugfix up, and I’m currently investigating the flicker. I think I’ve got an idea for root cause & possible fix.

Returning to this because Kamigakari just came out and I need a way to do online “dice manipulation”…

Would it be too much to ask for drag-select to be a thing? >.>

@Airk I hear you loud and clear. I’ve been trying to fix network bugs recently, and that’s approaching completion. I’ll look to drag-select next.

@Airk, @Paul_T Ok, drag-select is now in “beta”. I know there’s at least one remaining bug with it, hopefully I can track that down soon

That’s a great start! I like it; seems to work well.

I suppose the next step is to make it possible to do things with multi-selected dice (the menu for deleting and rerolling, etc, doesn’t come up with multi-selected dice).

That definitely sounds like the next step; Deleting and re-rolling are generally what I’d need to do with multiple dice at once – ideally by hotkey AND menu.

Yes, currently you can easily select and move the dice, which is great. That’s already a huge improvement! However, rerolling and deleting are two other basic functions, as you say.

We played today, and the Dice sorter box didn’t sort our Fudge dice.

Hey Wilhelm, Sorry for that regression! I spent some time thinking about how to prevent this kind of thing in the future, and I think I’m going to release a “beta” version alongside the main site, so that new feature development doesn’t cause errors like this for people depending on it for their regular games.

I’ll try to get a fix out today!

I had a fun weekend of hacking. It should be fixed now!

@Paul_T, @Airk : check out the drag-select now and see if you like it.

That’s lookin’ real promising based on my super lazy testing.
