What would make an indie dice-roller / tabletop simulator a "killer app" for you?

I suppose as a wish list I would like to have video chat with all the players, a dice roller, don’t care about animations, but a lot of people do. Something that automatically calls out results when it’s told rolling 2d6 with advantage/disadvantage or 3d6 with the two highest/lowest. A section in the center to share concept art or photos for inspiration. A digital white board to draw out sketches, maps, anything that needs a visual clarification. Google Doc compatible character sheets.

Yes! We played today. The dice sorter worked fine!

When I create dice from the die menu. Would it be possible to add a color picker there (or something like it) that I check before I add the dice to have new dice appear in that color?

The grey dice are fine, but we’d like to have a red die per player also.

@Wilhelm, I added a selector to the top of the dice picker modal. Try it now.

Oh, yes! This is looking really good. Wonderful work. The GUI is much improved, as well!

Two comments:

  1. The drag-and-select requires the entire “object” to be in the selected field, which is fine, but different from how many other “drag-and-select” interfaces work. (They probably just require the centerpoint of the object to be in the selected field, or something like that.)

If you want maximum user-friendliness, you may wish to adjust this. If not, it’s really a tiny issue; not worth worrying about.

  1. This one is more serious:

The table still limits the available space (with dark lines forming a box). This is unfortunate, since it doesn’t change when you zoom in or out, and it means that not the entire space is usable. I’m going to go try to adjust it manually, but by default, at least on my screen, it makes a good quarter of the screen (on the right) unavailable.

EDIT: Yeah, it works fine if I adjust it manually. So I suppose this isn’t a big deal, either!

Nice work. This looks extremely usable!

Wow, this is awesome! I didn’t read all the messages in this thread to catch up like I usually do before contributing, but just wanted to say this is really great work.

The one reason I might still use rollforyour.party over this is the inclusion of safety tools. I like the way that that site integrates the X card, and the fact it can be played anonymously with or without detail. It seems like maybe this could be handled by the “other” function though, with players anonymously adding text boxes? (Ex. "X the racial slurs about elves)

The actual dice aspect of your site I like much better though.

It’s beautiful! I tried it and got red and gray dice. It even worked with the sorter.

It IS kinda strange that the ‘working area’ doesn’t default to ‘use the whole browser window’ though.

Other nitpicky things:

  • Selecting dice and pushing the delete key doesn’t delete them. this is a semi-standard UI convention.
  • Part of me really wants to be able to drag dice off the sidebar to create more of them.

This has gotten WAY better since I last tried it out. The only feature I see missing is any easy way to do poker chips or tokens of different values. One of my designs uses betting. I think there are a couple other rpgs that do too. Plus, then we could use this for nearly any card game

Thanks pizzazzeria! I really love to hear this feedback.

I think rollforyour.party is a great tool and please use it too! It definitely prioritizes putting Safety Tools front-and-center.

I think I can imagine a way to produce an “anonymous” card in the UI, but I’ll need to think it through for a while. First step is custom cards, I think.

Thanks, Airk!

Delete key should be working now.

For drag-off-the-sidebar, you mean like where the dice buttons are, just mousedown on one of them, then drag onto the table, then mouseup?

Thanks for coming back to check out the progress, Deckard!

Ok, I’ve added chips / tokens to the list of enhancements to work on…

Yup, delete works now, thanks!

And yeah, that’s exactly what I mean for drag off sidebar – both for the dice buttons in the drawer and for the “last object clicked on” icon at the top of the sidebar. Dragging is slightly slower than just clicking for adding a new object, but it’s slightly faster if you care where the new object gets added.

  1. Start a new table.
  2. Add a Sorter.
  3. Change the label of the Sorter. To something containing “t”.
Expected outcome: Sorter gets new label with something containing “t”.
    Actual outcome:

I can reproduce the fault both in Chrome and Firefox on Windows. But not on my Android tablet for some reason…

Sorry about that Wilhelm! Should be fixed now!

Thanks!
We wrapped up our campaign last session. I don’t know what comes next gaming wise, I assume we’ll return to your roller though. We’ll see if I come with more feature requests and bug reports once we get our game going.

News: I’ve just added a “Tabulate” Dynamic Paper.

This might be especially useful to anyone who plays Genesys aka Fantasy Flight Star Wars. (But it also works with numeric values)

Now that we’re into the realm of well-and-truly nitpicky stuff, I am going to admit that I find the “roll” animation a little bit strange and unsatisfying. If you truly have nothing better to do, that might be a nice improvement, but uh, you’d probably need to have lots of free time to bother with something like that.

I agree with that… but I also consider it a very unimportant detail, compared to other factors.

Oh, this is fantastic! Could be very useful for certain games.

It is 100% an unimportant detail, but I think that the important details are pretty much out of the way by now.
