Fear of a Black Dragon: Give Us Suggestions!

On Return to the Tomb of Horrors? I remember an episode on Tomb of Horrors, but I didn’t think it involved Return to the Tomb of Horrors.

A reminder: please skim through the list of already covered episodes before making suggestions:

Castle Amber and Palace of the Silver Princess for B/X D&D.

Castle Amber is the peak of weird “funhouse dungeons” to me, based on the Averoigne series by Clark Ashton Smith and just a wild ride of a read.

Palace of the Silver Princess (at least the original orange cover written by Jean Wells) is an interesting dungeon, but also one with a fascinating history. It’s the only module from the Basic D&D TSR era written by a woman (Wells), and it was quite suddenly pulled from shelves by TSR for reasons due to internal office politics (and a lot of chauvinism) to be replaced by a modified version. Worth a look.

I’d be especially interested in Jason’s perspective on Crypts of Indormancy.

Skerples’ Tomb of the Serpent Kings was built as a ‘tuition dungeon’ and has gained traction as oft-advised first dungeon.

I suspect Sleeping Place of the Feathered Swine by Logan Knight would be right up Jason’s alley

Oh! Please consider doing an episode on Thulian Echoes.

Hi, @Lloyd_Neill - welcome to the Forums.

There’s that goofy Greyhawk supplement published for AD&D 1E, Castle Greyhawk. Here’s a peek into how goofily some of the dungeon levels were titled:

Evidence A: “Level 2: It’s My Party and I’ll Die if I Want to”, by Rick Swan
Evidences B, C and D: “Level 10: Fluffy Goes Down the Drain”, by Rick Reid
“Level 11: Mordenkainen’s Movie Madness”, by Ray Winninger
"Level 12: “Where the Random Monsters Roam”, by Steve Perrin

Reading this one now. It is GROTESQUE. And I do like it, haha

How about Cult of the Blue Crab?

I am currently running Castle Xyntillan and it is amazing. I think it’s high time Melan gets the Black Dragon treatment.

I second Hot Springs Island and to possibly also the Tomb of Black Sand, both by Jacob Hurst.

Gradient Descent for Mothership is the most interesting thing I’ve read in quite a while. It makes some interesting efforts at changing the dynamic of the Mega-dungeon in the direction of usability and brevity. Plus sci-fi dungeons are hard to do right, and it manages quite well.

I’m just having a browse through Halls of the Blood King by Diogo Nogueira (Necrotic Gnome/Exalted Funeral 2021)

Seems very cool, great art.

I’m not sure if you’re considering ‘ironic OSR’ like DCC (I might be being unfair to it), but Brendan LaSalle’s HOLE IN THE SKY is a great example of a funnel adventure that manages to feel like a 10th level adventure for 0-level characters.

Oh wait, you did Chained Coffin, so I guess you do.

Thanks! We also did Sailors and Lankhmar

And the frog temple one

I’ve never read a good review of Perils of the Purple Planet or whatever the DCC Sword & Planet boxed set was called. It looked like a very interesting product, but I guess availability is thin?

How about Neverland?
